Are you interested in a career and education in the STEM field?  Meet our panel of Middlesex Community College professionals who will talk about their academic and work experience BEFORE you choose!  (See registration form below.)

 

Our panel:

Christine Witkowski  is the Prof. & Program Coordinator Environmental Science.  Before MxCC she worked as the on-staff park naturalist with dinosaurs at the Dinosaur State Park and Museum in Rocky Hill, Conn before joining MxCC.  Christine developed and conducted educational programs on Connecticut geology, paleontology, evolution and botany.  During her time in Western Ireland, Christine assisted students in daily outdoor field mapping exercises, use of GPS, data analysis, and creation of geologic maps using ArcInfo; and in Sweden conducting fieldwork on the plate tectonic processes that produced the Caledonian mountains.  At MxCC, she revised the Environmental Science associate degree program to better meet the demands of this popular career field.

Frank Stellabotte is the Interim Director of the Biotechnology Programs.  He also is a Co-advisor of the S.P.E.A.K. (Students Promoting Equality, Acceptance and Knowledge) student organization on campus. He serves on Advisory Boards for the BioPath Initiative, a partnership between the city of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University, and the Biotechnology programs at Capital Community College and Norwich Technical High School.  Dr. Stellabotte moved to Connecticut from Los Angeles where he worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist conducting hearing research at the House Research Institute and the University of Southern California. Prior to that he earned a Ph.D. in Biology from Wesleyan University where his work lead to the discovery of a newly identified cellular population in fishes.

Jill Flanigan serves as a MxCC full-time assistant professor and coordinator for the Health Information Management program.  Before coming to Middlesex Community College, Jill was the Health Information Management program coordinator at Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA; adjunct faculty member at Three Rivers Community College; and former adjunct at Manchester Community College. Prior to her career in education, she served as an HIM director and in other health information management positions at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Westerly (RI) Hospital, Natchaug Hospital in Mansfield Center, CT., and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, New London, CT.  Jill has served on multiple committees of the American Health Information Management Association.  She is currently Co-Chair of the AHIMA Practice Council for Informatics and Data Analytics and is serving on the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Health Information Management Association (CTHIMA).
