Author Talk – The 143rd in Iraq

Local author Marc Youngquist will discuss his book, The 143rd in Iraq: Boots on the Ground Training Iraqi Police in Spite of It All, a historical account of a Connecticut National Guard Military Police Company’s attempt to recruit, train, and prepare an Iraqi Police Force in 2003-2004.

Copies of the book will be available for sale. Profits from the book will be donated to FIDELCO Guide Dog Foundation.

Writing for Young Readers with Author and Poet Leslie Bulion
How does your idea become a book?
Using her learning experiences from 20 years of writing for young readers, Leslie will share tips and best practices to up your writing process to the level of today’s thriving children’s writing market, including getting started, the writing process, and opportunities for learning and growing as a writer. Leslie will also cover the wide variety of genres in children’s writing, using examples of exciting, recently published children’s books.

Leslie Bulion is the author of 11 award-winning children’s books (and several more at press) including picture books, middle-grade novels (THE UNIVERSE OF FAIR, set at a fictional version of our​ Durham Fair) and science poetry collections.
